Large, heavy breasts are for many women a stressful incumbency. They may cause pains in the neck, the shoulders, the upper back, and may be an inconvenience when practicing sports.
A large breast is often a congenital condition and may cause problems already during puberty. But the breasts may also become bigger and heavier after a pregnancy or during menopause.
A breast reduction will allow you to enjoy your everyday life free from the burden of a large breast.
The condition of having abnormally large breasts is referred to as macromastia or mammary hypertrophy in the specialist jargon. In some cases, abnormally large breasts may also be asymmetrical, which means they are uneven in size. In the most extreme case, the difference may be up to one cup size. This imbalance may also be corrected with a surgical procedure.
Large breasts are in most cases a genetic condition. But, the hormonal changes of a pregnancy or during the menopause may also be the cause of a mammary hypertrophy ("abnormally large breasts").
In a mammary reduction surgery (commonly known as breast reduction surgery) the skin, as well as the fat and gland tissues, in excess in lower breast area will be removed, to reduce the breast to the desired size.
After the reduction, Dr. Colette Carmen Camenisch will sculpt your breast with precise and artistic finesse in a new shape. At first, she will newly mold the internal tissues, and then she will tighten the skin over. The nipples will also be reduced and the areolae transplanted in their new position.
Depending on how much the breast will have to be reduced, between 2,5 and 3 hours.
Dr. Colette Carmen Camenisch performs the breast reduction surgeries in the ambulatory clinic in Beethovenstrasse. Should this be the case, you will be sent home on that same evening.
In the case of more extensive procedures and depending on your personal preferences, Dr. Colette Carmen Camenisch may also operate a mammary reduction plastic procedure in the clinic «Im Park» or in the clinic«Pyramide». Should this be the case, you will have to stay 1 or 2 nights in the clinic.
Depending on the extent of the surgery between 7 and 10 days.
In the case of breast reduction surgery, the most common complications are the following: postoperative hemorrhages, infections, and aesthetically unpleasant scars. If feelings of numbness and somatosensory disorders occur, in most cases, they should disappear within a few weeks. If a considerable amount of mammary gland tissue was removed during the surgery, afterward the ability to breastfeed may be severely impaired.
After the breast reduction, you will have to wear a tight-fitting bra for the next 6 weeks. After this period, you may practice sport again.
The costs for a breast reduction surgery may vary depending on the complexity of the procedure and will be agreed upon in advance. The price is inclusive of all services, such as the consultation, the surgery, the anesthesia, the medications, the hospitalization, the follow-up controls, and all potential corrective surgical procedures.
In some cases, the insurance may cover the costs. Our staff at Clinic Beethovenstrasse AG will gladly clarify if your insurance will cover any of the costs of the surgery.
