Botulinum toxin A: through a complex process, a specific protein is obtained from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium in the laboratory. This protein inhibits the transmission of impulses between nerve endings and muscles. As a result, the muscle is prevented from contracting and the overlying skin becomes smooth and wrinkle-free. This medication has been used in conventional medicine for a long time for blepharospasm, bladder problems, anal fissures and many other indications. It has also been used for aesthetic purposes since 2003.
Hyaluronic acid: nowadays, hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar molecule, is obtained from plants using biotechnology or fermentation. The product is therefore 100% vegan. The hyaluronic acid is then purified by filtering it several times. HA is found everywhere in humans, but in the skin it is produced in large quantities by fibroblasts and forms an essential component of the extracellular matrix. It has various functions, but is primarily responsible for moisture retention.
Botulinum toxin A is officially approved in Switzerland for glabella/frown lines and for wrinkles on the sides of the eye (crow's feet). The medication can also be used successfully for extreme armpit (axilla) sweating.
The medication has a duration of action of three to six months; when treating perspiration, a duration between six and nine months. The effect is visible after just three to five days.
Hyaluronic acid is used in particular for contouring, rehydration and volumizing. Nasolabial wrinkles, cheekbones, jawlines and even lips can be improved with it. The effect lasts between six to 12 months. You can see the effect after just a short time.
Special care is required for both treatments. Sports and physical exertion should be avoided on the day of treatment and the following day.
Minor bruises (hematomas), swelling
For botulinum toxin A: pregnancy/breast-feeding, known allergic reactions to the protein, known diseases such as myasthenia gravis.
