Gynecomastia refers to a benign (only very rarely, malignant) growth of mammary glands in a man. In rare cases, the growth develops only on one side.
With a corrective surgery of the gynecomastia, Dr. Camenisch removes the unpleasant mammary glandular tissue and partially the excessive fat deposits as well.
Gynecomastia is for most men a very stressful condition. With a corrective procedure, Dr. Colette Carmen Camenisch removes the glandular tissue through an incision around the areolae. And in so doing, she helps the men who suffer from this condition to achieve a flat and manly chest.
But not every man who presents aesthetically unpleasant "man boobs" suffers from gynecomastia. Some men may have a fat accumulation in the chestal area, a so-called "adipomastia" or "pseudo-gynecomastia". In this case, the fat may be removed with a liposuction.
A particular type of gynecomastia is pubertal gynecomastia. The cause of this condition is an imbalance in the production of the sexual hormones. For young men, it's a heavy psychological burden to bear. They will avoid swimming pools, sporting events, and any other activity for which they may have to show their naked torso.
A gynecomastia may also occur with age: the production of testosterone decreases and the fat deposits will accumulate more and more estrogen. Both effects may cause a growth of mammary glandular tissue.
If the men who present this condition also suffer from feelings of tightness, limited mobility or from particularly sensitive nipples, an additional endocrinological consultation may be necessary.
Gynecomastia: 1 to 1.5 hours
Liposuction: 30 to 45 minutes
Gynecomastia und liposuction: up to 2 hours
Particularly large breasts may also cause an excessive skin accumulation. For example, after a severe weight loss, a gastric band or other bariatric surgeries. In this case, in a second procedure, it may be performed a chest lift. The operation will last approximately 2 hours.
Dr. Colette Carmen Camenisch operates the gynecomastia as an ambulatory procedure at Clinic Beethovenstrasse AG in Zurich or with a stationary stay in either one of the private clinics "Pyramide" or “Klinik im Park”. In this case, you will have to stay in the clinic for 1 to 2 days.
4 to 7 days
A gynecomastia corrective surgery may cause infections, postoperative hemorrhages, edemas ("interstitial fluid retention"), and aesthetically unpleasant scarring around the nipple. Should feelings of numbness and somatosensory disorders occur they should usually disappear within a few weeks. Follow-up corrective procedures may be necessary, but only very rarely.
After the surgery, you will have to wear a tight-fitting chest band or a compression bandage or girdle for 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, you should avoid all sports activities.
The costs for a gynecomastia corrective surgery may vary depending on the extent of the surgery and will be agreed upon in advance. The price is inclusive of all services, such as the consultation, the surgery, the anesthesia, the medications, the hospitalization, the follow-up controls, and all potential corrective surgical procedures.
In some cases, the insurance may cover the costs.
Our staff at Clinic Beethovenstrasse AG will gladly clarify if your insurance covers any of the costs
