Gynecomastia

Manly pectorals thanks to corrective surgery of gynecomastia

Gynecomastia refers to a benign (only very rarely, malignant) growth of mammary glands in a man. In rare cases, the growth develops only on one side.

With a corrective surgery of the gynecomastia, Dr. Camenisch removes the unpleasant mammary glandular tissue and partially the excessive fat deposits as well.

We are glad to answer any questions you may have on the gynecomastia surgery. You may call us at the telephone number +41 44 545 14 44 or schedule a consultation appointment online.

Gynecomastia is for most men a very stressful condition. With a corrective procedure, Dr. Colette Carmen Camenisch removes the glandular tissue through an incision around the areolae. And in so doing, she helps the men who suffer from this condition to achieve a flat and manly chest.

But not every man who presents aesthetically unpleasant "man boobs" suffers from gynecomastia. Some men may have a fat accumulation in the chestal area, a so-called "adipomastia" or "pseudo-gynecomastia". In this case, the fat may be removed with a liposuction.

Even teenagers may suffer from gynecomastia

A particular type of gynecomastia is pubertal gynecomastia. The cause of this condition is an imbalance in the production of the sexual hormones.  For young men, it's a heavy psychological burden to bear. They will avoid swimming pools, sporting events, and any other activity for which they may have to show their naked torso.

A gynecomastia may also occur with age: the production of testosterone decreases and the fat deposits will accumulate more and more estrogen. Both effects may cause a growth of mammary glandular tissue.

If the men who present this condition also suffer from feelings of tightness, limited mobility or from particularly sensitive nipples, an additional endocrinological consultation may be necessary.
